“Wake-up Radio” Features for Saturdays
1. The Learning Center: (Highlighting & acknowledging Inventors in different fields - technological and otherwise. First Achievers & Distinguished Developers who have made significant contributions, plus programs which impact on our communities).
2. Did you know: (Highlighting significant historical events in the world and dates of their occurrences. It also includes unique and amazing recorded highlights about nature, sports, popular culture, buildings, solar system, technology, etc. Examples of these can be found in the Scholastic Book of World Records 2002.
3. Moments in History: (Highlighting landmark historical events, celebrating their anniversary on the day of the radio broadcast.)
4. Public Service Announcements: (Free announcement of schedule and/or activities of community non-profit organizations and Public Schools.)
5. Job-Want Ads - (Free ‘Help Wanted’ mentions - bringing awareness to the availability of jobs within our community.)
6. Vintage Reggae/Soca/R&B music.
7. Youth Feature: In-studio and/or telephone interviews saluting the young people in the community, and acknowledging students’ achievements.
8. Independent Feature: Feature with client speaking directly to the market (recorded or otherwise).
9. Community link (live telephone talk with sponsors or potential sponsors and/or someone who is making a positive difference to our community)
10. Health-Watch: is primarily health tips by Ms. Carmen Palmer, RN, BSN, MPH - a feature designed to bring important information on health issues that affect individuals, families and communities. She’s a retired diabetes clinical nurse specialist and diabetes educator. She is a member of, and volunteer lecturer for the American Diabetes Association. She volunteers her services to promoting diabetes awareness programs, especially in ethnic communities. She teaches diabetes patients and professionals and also lectures at diabetes seminars all over the country. She writes on the topic of diabetes published in various medical journals. Other health related health professionals also share information in this segment.
11. The Family In-Focus: Live or recorded features bringing awareness programs to our communities, by professionals who are experts in different fields (Mental health practitioners, MD’s., Social Workers, Ministers and others). These features address issues relevant to family and community building, and with a strong emphasis on values-based approach. Issues of child-abuse, domestic violence, parenting skills, education, delinquency prevention, addiction-prevention, drunk driving, etc. are addressed.
