Born Carlyle B. Moxie in the Parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies, Carl migrated to the USA as a young teen, after being invited to California by former light heavyweight boxing champion, Archie Moore, former middleweight boxing champion, Sugar Ray Robinson, and then, heavyweight boxing champion, Muhammad Ali.
Carl fought and raised monies to help build shelters for the homeless and for kids from broken homes in California. His stay in California put him in the company of several Hollywood movie stars, which include Sidney Poitier, Ivan Dixon, Tony Randall, Raquel Welch, Otis Young and others. He moved to New York City during the turn of the ’70s. Carl founded Concerned Jamaican Citizens and Friends organization (CJCF) in the 1980’s with an objective to provide support, primarily financial, to health institutions in Jamaica, W.I., and also to provide services for the youths in our communities. Through the CJCF organization, aggressive promotions, fund-raising activities and after twelve years, thousands of dollars was donated in cash and kinds to hospitals that included medical equipment to the island and other institutions in the United States. Carl’s eagerness and commitment to help foster the growth of people, especially the youths, have always kept him aggressively exploring innovative ways to do so. Carl used strategies such as, but not limited to, writing, recording music with positive lyrics, and freely distributed these records within the community. His latest 20-track CD compilation is titled; “Liberation”. He also FREELY wrote forum and opinion pieces for some of the major Black owned newspapers in New York City, which includes The Daily Challenge, The New York Carib News, The Jamaican Gleaner North America Edition, The City Sun and The Amsterdam News and also Everybody’s Magazine. His drive to promote the positive growth of the youths has influenced his decision to host a Caribbean radio show. The Carl B Moxie Wake-Up Call Radio Show is aired on 93.5 FM radio every Saturday at 11:30 AM. The Wake-Up call is designed to evoke awareness through inspirational music, features and messages. His on air humor and loving attitude towards his listeners is most refreshing. One enjoys the comradeship he shares with his lovely and competent assistant Debbie “Debo” Harrigan. The show’s weekly features include News-brief, Community Link, Job Want Ads, From the Chapters of Carl B. Moxie, The Learning Center, Moments in History, The Family in-Focus, Health Watch, Children / Student’s Salute, Meditation, Wisdom online, Virtue Reality and ‘Insight with Carmen’, his wife. Carmen has been engaged in the practice and study of Raja Yoga meditation with the Brahma Kumaris since 1998. Carmen has many passions – all of which include empowering the self through the integration of spirituality in all aspects of life. She FREELY teaches Raja Yoga meditation and coordinates Brahma Kumaris classes in the Bronx. These classes are values-based, including Stress-Free Living, Positive Thinking, Building Self-Esteem, Anger management, etc. – offered free to the community as a service to help empower the community at all levels.Carmen also has a passion for women’s empowerment, create and facilitate a variety of workshops aimed at different aspects of a woman’s life. She’s a retired diabetes clinical nurse specialist and diabetes educator. Carmen is a member of, and a volunteer lecturer for the American Diabetes Association. Carmen is experienced in integrating spiritual tools into clinical healthcare practice. She is actively engaged in creating and facilitating ‘Hope in Healthcare’ programs, an initiative of the Point of Life Foundation, which includes workshops, retreats, and conversations for healthcare professionals. Her aim is to promote positive values-based healthcare practices that will support healthcare professionals in their work, create and sustain healing environments and healing relationships, and enhance the quality of the patients’ experience in the healthcare system. Beverley Piper Leon, a student of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization (BKWSO) is also a Certified Holistic Health Coach and Raindrop Therapist (full body essential oil treatment). She assists clients in maintaining natural and healthy lifestyles, through individual and group counseling. Beverley works with those who are experiencing various health issues, especially Obesity, High Blood Pressure and Diabetes, Digestive Disorders and more. She also councils individuals who are experiencing depression.
Beverley Piper Leon received certification as a Nutrition Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where she was trained in all the major dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. She was also awarded the State University of New York (SUNY) Purchase College Certificate. Prior to that she received certification from the International Board of African Thinkers where she was trained by Dr. Lialia Afrika. She is board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP).
